LITTLE WING GUY'S PROFILE
I may have little wings, but I have a big dick heart.
Hey there. I've been into game making since about 2008, but it wasn't until 2014 I was able to complete my first ever game! The game was started and finished in a single week for a contest. In one week I was able to do what I struggled with for 6 years. 6 WHOLE YEARS. HILARIOUS ISN'T IT.

Advice to get started again?
Hello! I definitely recognise your username. Anyway, as for games that are a must play? Looking through all the sites featured games is a good start, I can’t think of anything specific right now though.

If the battle system is the only reason your changing, have you considered just going back to 2K instead of VX? It's a really painless switch if you've already made a lot. You've probably already thought of that though, and I'm guessing there's a reason you're not.

Unlocking equipment (and other upgrades)
author=LockeZ
For example, I find most minigames obnoxious, because they tend to be a wildly different type of gameplay than what I really turned on the game to play (racing minigame in an RPG), and they also tend to be far worse than real games of the genre they're emulating (I'd definitely rather play SSX Tricky than FF7 Snowboarding). As a result, if I have to play a minigame to get an upgrade that's irreplacable or that's really strong for the point in the game that it becomes available, I get annoyed. But if it's something I can easily skip, it doesn't bother me - because if I get sick of the minigame, I can play the real game instead, and eventually get the same reward.
I totally agree. Typically, if I’m unlocking something from playing a mini-game, I don’t think it shouldn’t be anything more than a neat bonus. For example, in a “Tales of” game, if you win at a mini-game you’ll unlock a new costume, character title or a cooking recipe. Something that helps the player, or something that they think is cool, but not something that they necessarily need. I mean, most mini-games are designed to be a fun distraction, so if you’re playing it to win stuff all these powerful upgrades, then it kind of becomes a grind. Like, if you win at triple triad in FF8, you unlock more cards so you can continue playing triple triad, that’s what you get.
I also think anything random is a really bad idea. I want to get fair progression from doing something that took skill, and the reward to be relative to that. I do not want to spend time farming for a item. I don’t get any sense of achievement from getting random drops. “Man, that enemy just dropped a Hi-Potion! I’m so skilled at this game, everyone will be so jealous when I show my print screen.”. No, fuck that.
How planned-out should your RPG be before you begin?
Well, the only project that I’ve completely planned out from start to finish, is the only project I’ve ever released something playable for.
Even when I go in with a basic outline, it always falls apart before it goes anywhere, and I’ve attempted more projects than I’ll like to share. Seeing everything written out keeps you motivated and most importantly, on track.
EDIT: Also, it wasn't until I had my entire story written out, that I started seeing plot holes GALORE (even though I thought I knew everything about my story, I still didn't). If I had reliazed that after I was six months in, I would have gotten so stressed and felt like quitting. Even things like working how many towns and dungeons you’ll have in the game allows you to perfectly plan how much equipment there will be, rather than just leaving massive gaps everywhere in the database. Man, just plan it out, seriously.

RMN v4.3 approaches! Command?

Don't feel sorry, the buzzing system still needs to be tweaked in the sense that you can have a couple of people passing the ball back and forth to constantly bring the same games on the front page. I'll demonstrate this abuse shortly with a couple of buddies..
I don't know, it's been ages since I've seen anyone intentionally hog the buzzing games spot. I always see different games there now. I don't think comments add all that much to the buzz score, I think it's downloads and new subscribers (which aren’t that easy to abuse) that do it.

Don't worry you have talent! :D
ok thanks!,
I'm making a game of myself,
=Fantasy Legend: Dark Countdown, Lol,
Just wanted to ask, if i could use that boss batle music, if i could use it for something EVIL! if my characters have to run :D or something, i've been on rpg maker 2003 like 3 years, i made RPG's then i was sick of it and i kept deleting it XD,
But keep up the goood work :D
How dare you politely ask for a song I have no rights to? How dare you!
Of course you can use it, everything in the project is free to public domain. All the music comes for Dark Chronicle and Rogue Galaxy. The boss battle song is called Exploder 1 I think. There’s another called Exploder 2, which is a slighter slower more orchestrated version of it. It’s good though. If you’re ever bored, or you’re looking for some new tunes for your own game I’d suggest listening to both soundtracks on YouTube, there’s some great songs. =)
You can download it from Blue Laguna or just take it from my game folder.
